From Shara’s instagram:
“I stood behind a brown skinned young woman at the passport control. “Where are you going?” was followed by six more minutes of questions for her. Finally her book was stamped and she walked on. I went to the desk next. “Where are you going?” he asked. “Antwerp”, I said. STAMP. Without another word from him. I walked behind the other woman for a few minutes and tears fell down my face. I didn’t know if I should say anything to her. I thought “How he dealt with you felt unfair in comparison to me and I’m sorry you were treated like that.” I could have said. “ I was your witness.” But I didn’t. I questioned my right to feel the way I did. I made a list in my head about a supposed necessity for national borders or their concerns about the influx of refugees and a bunch of other justifications why I have such ease … but in my gut, baseline, the two interactions with that passport control officer felt vastly unfair as a human. Later at night, I met with Helga and talked about what happened. She said that she was asked to produce a credit card at passport control. She has an American passport. I have never been asked to produce a credit card in the many years I’ve been coming to Europe. We are so used to these “small injustices” as normal. We accept these differences in questioning at a passport control between white and brown people and justify why it has to be like this. But Underlying is a message to blacks that you don’t have as much of a right to be here or move in this world or work. “Come, but definitely ensure me that you are leaving.” As a white musician traveling with black musicians I see the difference in treatment often. That’s a perspective not every white person has, to compare side by side, their own movement in the world with their peers who are black and in the exact same situation and see the difference time and time again. Some instances might seem small. But none are. We as a 💎community have to risk putting ourselves in dialogue, then allow our assumptions to be corrected and adjusted without defense. Our societies are based on ensuring whites remain in power. Our nations were built on imperialism. It’s not Just.”
New song, new song. Hurrah for whoever taped this.

From La Blogotheque:
“It was in Oct. 2016, in Berlin, during Michelberger Music.
Between each show of the festival, we were kidnapping a person in the audience, which we were taking to a secret room where an artist was waiting.
Between the two of them, a unique experience : a One To One concert.”
